"I am continually inspired by the resiliency of the human spirit. It is an honor to witness the power that individuals have within themselves to discover wisdom and walk through change with courage."
- Elizabeth Napolin, LPCMH
A licensed professional counselor with over 10 years of experience, Liz is passionate about creating a safe space for people to find peace in managing stress and feel a greater connection to themselves and their loved ones.
In her practice, Liz sees individuals ages 3 and up and has extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, issues related to fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum mood concerns, as well as trauma in both adults and children. Having the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Jonathan Baylin, she is guided by an understanding of neurobiology and attachment-focused practices. Liz incorporates mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT).
Together with a team of like-minded therapists, Liz runs groups and workshops designed to increase parents' confidence in their ability to tune into their children's needs and support them in a calm and mindful way.
Individual Therapy for Adults
An individual session can run from 45 - 60 mins and may include traditional talk therapy, guided imagery, visualizations and/or EMDR. We will work together to gain awareness of your triggers and increase confidence in your ability to manage current life stressors. Generally, 2-3 appointments provide a good amount of time to get to know our working rhythm and see if it feels like a good fit.
A couples therapy session can run for 45 - 60 minutes. I view couples therapy as a way to better understand yourself and your partner within the relationship. Together we will set goals and work through roadblocks in your relationship, which may include issues such as communication breakdowns, understanding how you and your partner's backgrounds impact your current relationship and co-parenting challenges. The first 1 - 2 sessions generally focus on your relationship history, strengths as a couple and goals for counseling. This will give us a chance to see if it feels like a good fit for both partners.
Individual Therapy for Children and Teens
Before going into private practice, I worked in a variety of K - 12th grade schools providing mental health services for children ages 5 - 18 years old. An individual session for children and teens can run from 45 - 60 mins and may include traditional talk therapy, play therapy, guided imagery, visualizations, parenting work, PCIT and/or EMDR. When working with children, I find 2-3 sessions is a good amount of time to get to know each other, meet individually with the caregivers and with the child or teen. After this assessment phase we will be able to tell if it feels like a good fit, set goals for treatment and create a plan for how frequently to meet.
Being a parent is intense. The job description is long and the pressure we put on ourselves is high. Together with a team of therapists, I offer workshops that cover a variety of topics related to parenting. These groups generally include information regarding the neurobiology of the parent-child relationship and dive into strategies for creating a strong and loving attachment with your children during their difficult moments. The atmosphere of the group is nonjudgmental and will include real-life examples from participants and the therapists. Participants leave each workshop with greater self-awareness, a personalized self-care plan for themselves and practical strategies for meeting their child with love during the difficult moments in parenting.
